Assistant Professor of Physics

The Physics Department at Hamilton College seeks applicants for two tenure-track assistant professor positions beginning in July 2016. The successful candidates will develop active experimental research programs involving undergraduates working with apparatus on campus. They will also be comfortable teaching at the introductory and advanced levels in both classroom and laboratory settings.  A Ph.D. in Physics or closely related field is required. Preference will be given to candidates with postdoctoral research and teaching experience. For one position, we seek an experimentalist who specializes in table-top optical techniques in fields such as AMO. The second position is also for an experimentalist, with the field more broadly defined. We seek candidates in fields such as astrophysics, biophysics, medical physics, geophysics, etc. that will be complementary to our continuing research areas in experimental nuclear physics and in theoretical physics. The college provides start-up funding for all entering faculty.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV, teaching and research statements, and arrange for submission of three letters of reference to http://www.interfolio.com/apply/30392: The cover letter should address ways in which you would further the College’s goal of building a diverse and inclusive educational environment; previous experience teaching or working with diverse student populations is an asset.  Information on the Physics department may be found at http://physerver.hamilton.edu/. Questions may be directed to Prof. Ann Silversmith, asilvers@hamilton.edu.  Review of materials will begin October 1st, 2015.
